College of Fashion Design /VOSON/ and Secondary Technical School of Fashion /SPSO/

The schools are focused on the design, creation and presentation of clothing and
accessories. The secondary school ends with a graduation certificate and the technical
college ends with a diploma.

Since our founding in 1956, we have developed a rich professional history and tradition and responded to the needs of the Czech fashion market. We have established our place within the EU through excellent cooperation with international institutions.

In our creative environment, students prepare to fulfill their professional goals in the industry, travel to international educational and fashion show opportunities, as well as to other venues to exhibit their work. Students also may serve internships in designers’ workshops or with clothing manufacturers.

This is a three-year full-time program (requires a high school diploma), which culminates with an “absolutorium” (two weeks of exams and presentations of collections and portfolios) ending with a certificate of completion.

Great emphasis is placed on the development of creative independence, encouraging our students to find their own best approach to given themes, as well as practicing team communication and cooperation. Our graduates are also exposed to marketing and promotional activities. Student work includes creation of made-to-measure garments, costume design and creation, fashion drawing and illustrations, and the business of fashion marketing.

Throughout their studies, our students are encouraged by their renowned fashion designer instructors to explore all aspects of the creative process and to discover their particular area of interest. Studies focus not only on the artistic facets of garments, but also on other areas of the fashion industry: personal styling, preparation of fashion shows, and accessories such as handbags, shoes, and hair ornaments. Students have access to specialized graphic and multimedia programs to produce materials needed for exhibits and PR for individual events, in addition to software for computer assisted design, technical drawings and pattern making.

Our students have opportunities to present their work at fashion shows and various competitions in both the Czech Republic and internationally (Milan, Cannes, Berlin, Florence, among others). While creating their collections, students are also given opportunities to work on specific projects with garment and textile producers. (Among others: Pietro Filipi, Houtny, Vavi, AleaSportswear, Preciosa Jablonec, Velveta, Mileta.)

Should our graduates wish to continue their studies, a bachelor degree may be attained through a one-year program at Solent University, in Southhampton (UK). Our school also has a Cooperation Agreement with Shangahi Jian Qiao University (China).

Education program: individual model creation and presentation (entrance exam required)

Our positive experience with the creative potential of students from our Clothing program led us, in 1996, to create this separate curriculum. Once talent is identified through entrance exams, it is then developed through artistic instruction.

This program includes figure drawing as a very basic element of designing clothing. The next step is the clothing design itself, where the importance of inspiration is explored and developed, along with the selecting of suitable materials. This is tested
with the creation of a small-scale models (1:5) of the garments. Each semester our students work closely with their instructors to make and present their creations for the given theme, and accompany it with an oral presentation. Full-size garments are
then produced from these models.

Our fourth year students work alongside with students from the Clothing curriculum to create their final year graduation fashion show. These two groups have previously worked together during their first year orientation project at the very beginning of the school year.

Graduation exams in this curriculum are given in art history as well as technical subjects. A practical exam involves creating fashion designs on a given topic. In consultation with their instructors, one design is chosen and is made-to-measure on a specific model whom they choose. The students work independently in the school workshop, and their work is evaluated on the basis of not only how well the finished garment fits, but also the technical drawings for the pattern, the quality of the sewing itself, and the level of creativity in their designs.

Our graduates from this program can enter many different positions within various types of design teams, advertising agencies, media outlets, made-to-measure clothing salons, and garment manufacturers, both local and international.

Education program: Creative modeling and design (entrance exam required)

The curriculum for Scenography and Exhibitions was created in 2012 as an option for students who have artistic talents in areas other than clothing. These students work on design of interior spaces, making simple models of paper or cardboard. As they
progress, they are given more difficult topics requiring their increased expertise in using a greater variety of materials.

Scenography students focus on theater spaces: costume and set designs, including the basics of construction of scenery, props and basic clothing construction. We also work with leading Czech make-up artists, who present workshops either at school or
directly in theaters. Our students are capable of designing and producing both local and international fashion shows- including PR materials, video documentation, selecting the venue and models, and doing hair and make-up. Their oral graduation exams include Art History as well as technical subjects.

The practical graduation work requires the combination of all of these skills to design and present an exhibit space for a specific theme and event, including the clothing of hosts / hostesses, accessories, make-up and hair suitable for the theme and costumes. They also present their detailed PR plan and produce a motivational video.

Our first graduation class, in 2015/2016, found work in a wide range of creative positions- fashion, PR, advertising, theater and film production.
